Marlaine + Mark have such an amazing love story!

In Marlaine’s own words 🙂 The E! True Hollywood Story of Marklaine

How we met: I met Mark through a mutual friend and from the moment I saw him I told myself “that’s my future husband.” Although I knew I wanted to marry him I didn’t really know him so I decided to start a soccer team and asked if he wanted to join. From there I liked what I saw and then asked him out on a date. Before we ordered dinner we both knew this is it! From then on we were known as Marklaine.

The engagement: It was the week before my birthday and Mark and I had been dating for 6 months. He asked how I wanted to celebrate and I told him I’ve never really celebrated a birthday. He then asked if I would rather have a gift or an experience and go somewhere. Definitely an experience! We packed up and hit the road for a long weekend. We headed east and I had no idea where we were going but thought oh he probably rented a place on the beach for the weekend. After an hour we arrived at a cute bed and breakfast on Cocoa beach.

The next morning Mark woke me up really early and we grabbed a cup of coffee, a blanket and went to the beach to watch the sunrise. It was a beautiful sunrise and sky was full of orange and pink tones. It looked like a painting. We packed up and had breakfast before we checked out. As we left Mark said let’s go see the sunset! I thought how sweet maybe he rented a place on the west coast of Florida so we can catch the sunset. We start driving west and he pulls into the airport. I thought he was just joking around but then he parked. He turned to me and said “baby let’s go see the sunset on the west coast, we are going to San Diego.” I was blown away. I had never been to California and before I knew it we were on the plane.

Just when I started thinking “is he going to propose?”, Mark started talking about how much he loved me and he is excited to make it official but he is so busy at work and he hasn’t had time to see my dad or make any plans. So I thought okay, this really is for my birthday. We got to San Diego, checked into the Del Coronado and had our luggage sent to the room. We waited for our luggage and then Mark decided to go down to the desk to check on it. Meanwhile I hear a knock at the door and it’s a bellman with a big FedEx box. I told him to put it on the other side of the room and thought I can’t believe he got me a present too. I don’t even want to know where it’s from.

Mark comes back to the room and runs into the bathroom with the box and asked me to get ready so we can go see the sunset. We walk down to the beach just in time to catch the sunset and he hugs me and says “look I made a little show for you on my phone.” He goes through some pictures and recaps our relationship and the last photo was a picture of my dad with 2 thumbs up. I was shocked. I turned around and Mark is on one knee and says “baby I never want to see a sun rise or fall without you, will you marry me?”

I was so excited I didn’t even look at the ring until he reminded me after all the hugs, kisses and crying. It was a beautiful ring Mark had designed himself and had it custom made. It was overnighted to the hotel and Mark didn’t see the ring in person until 2 minutes before he proposed.

We celebrated the rest of the weekend; we had the most incredible brunch at the Del, went to the San Diego zoo and dinner in the Gaslight district. We flew back on Monday which was my actual birthday and when we arrived at home, 20 of our closest friends jumped out and said “Surprise, happy birthday and congratulations.” It was a whirlwind weekend and the most amazing experience.

Seven months later we were on our way to our first wedding together and it was our own.
