Katie + Matt / Orlando Museum of Art Wedding

We absolutely loved working with Katie and Matt again for their spectacular modern wedding at the Orlando Museum of Art!
Interview with our fantastic couple, Katie + Matt:
HOW DID YOU MEET? We met at the University of Florida in a triplex that we were both renting. Katie was just the girl next door!
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU THE MOST TO YOUR HUSBAND/WIFE? Matt says “her beautiful smile.” Katie says “the way he made me laugh all the time and his sparkling eyes.”
HOW DID HE PROPOSE? Matt was leaving to go on a business trip for five weeks in Texas. We had planned to go to a nice dinner as a going away date but before dinner Matt surprised me by having three dozen roses in the living room. I thought it was all because he was leaving until Matt got down on one knee and proposed. While he was gone he sent me two more bouquets to symbolize their five years together.
WHAT INSPIRED YOUR VISION FOR YOUR WEDDING? We wanted a classic look that would stand the test of time. I have always loved black and white and envisioned a cocktail/lounge reception where people could spend time dining and drinking, lounging with good friends in conversation or dancing to a live band. We wanted our guests to be a part of a sophisticated but relaxed party.
TELL US ABOUT FINDING YOUR VENUE: We wanted to think outside the box and avoid the traditional hotel reception. We both have a passion for art and the clean lines and modern atmosphere of the Orlando Museum of Art fit their vision perfectly.
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST PLANNING CHALLENGE? The biggest challenge was staying within our budget – didn’t happen haha!
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN ELEMENT OF YOUR WEDDING? We loved our lounge furniture and high top cocktail tables. Guests could sit if they wanted but did not have assigned seating. My (Katie’s) mom designed black and white pillows for each of the couches and ottomans. “Mr.” and “Mrs.” pillows sat on our loveseat at our sweetheart table. We also loved our “Haute Dog Station” where Gator Dogs, Pitt Dogs, and Southern Cross Dogs were served. Each style of hot dog was a personal touch that Matt and I wanted to make sure represented us.
DID YOU HAVE ANY DIY DETAILS? My mom, a costume designer, wanted to make us unique pillows for our furniture.
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Matt: “Seeing Katie for the first time at our first look, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was.”
Katie: “Coming around the corner as my dad walked me down the aisle and looking only at Matt as we were surrounded by 100 of our closest friends and family. Also, when we went to cut our cake we took a look at all of our friends and family who were wearing their glow in the dark sunglasses – the room was filled with love and laughter.”
DESCRIBE YOUR CAKE: We wanted our guests to have a bite of something sweet. Party Flavors suggested cake pops and helped us create a “fake cake.” The cake pops were delicious (red velvet and double fudge chocolate). So many of our guests thought the fake cake was real and that the pops were sitting in cake. We dropped off the different types of black and white ribbon and wrapping paper and viola’ a cake was born (or so you thought).
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER? This was one of our most important decisions when it came to our wedding. We knew that we were not going to get a videographer and wanted someone that would capture those unforgettable moments. Ever since the day we met Jason and Sara we were entranced by their creativity. They work so well together and complement each other with their skills. They put you at ease when you are feeling nervous. We could not have been happier with meeting and working with Sara and Jason.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND AS A COUPLE? We would love to continue our passion for traveling before we start a family in a few years.
